Fees - ADHD

Adult ADHD comprehensive assessment: £1,499.

  • This takes approximately 2-3 hours, includes a general psychiatry assessment, screening for comorbid conditions (e.g. OCD, Tic Disorders, Autism, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, problems with substances such as alcohol, cannabis etc), taking a collateral history from someone who ideally knew you as a child.
  • Both myself and my patients valued a detailed holistic assessment, as for ADHD, it is the rule that there are additional other disorders that we need to be aware of and possibly treat or at least to consider how potential ADHD treatment may affect them, so that I can advise you on the best way to help you overall as a person.
  • I do ask that where there are comorbid conditions that you are aware of, that you do your best in advance to have these treated and stabilised, as an important part of the ADHD diagnostic criteria is that the symptoms should not be better explained by the presence of another psychiatric disorder. I do understand however that you may have already sought treatment which may only have been partly successful due potentially to ADHD, and am happy to discuss this in advance.
  • It’s common for many people with ADHD to have some ongoing substance misuse issues and ADHD can make it more difficult to treat those and indeed increases the chances of having them. Examples include:
    • I request that alcohol be slowly and safely reduced to NHS recommended levels of 14 units weekly (please seek advice from your GP/local service if unsure how to do this, as rapid reduction can make a person very unwell and trigger a medical emergency if alcohol dependent). I request that the person achieve the above for one month prior to the assessment.
    • For cannabis, this is often used to aid sleep and to cope in the daytime; I advise that daytime use be gradually reduced and the night dose reduced to the smallest needed level, and to be at the lowest dose for one month before the assessment.
  • Where I diagnose ADHD, I give helpful advice to understand the condition and immediate psychosocial (non medication) actions you can take. This doesn’t include commencement of medication, which when appropriate, is done at a separate medication appointment.
  • Where I feel your symptoms are due to another disorder, I will give a thorough explanation and outline potential treatment and will offer to treat this if appropriate and you would like this.

Initial medication appointment: £249.

  • This includes an initial private prescription to commence ADHD treatment titration and a thorough discussion with you of the various medication options. I tailor your initial medication based on your preferences and needs.
  • It’s also important to remember that you can later choose to trial a different medication and I can guide you on this if needed.

Followup medication appointment: £249.

  • Monthly followups are required during initial titration; I aim to help you achieve your stable dose as safely and quickly as possible.
  • Approximately 3-6 appointments may be needed, but this can vary (and is difficult to predict), depending on response, potential side effects and co-morbid (other) conditions. I estimate that it takes on average around 5 months to optimise medication.

Private prescription (outside of an appointment) to include postage via Special Delivery, tracked next day delivery by 1pm: £47.

  • I use Special Delivery as these are controlled drugs.
  • Please ideally give 1 week’s notice before the current prescription runs out.
  • In an emergency I do my best to get this to you sooner – this is affected though by post office opening hours.

To take over care and titrate medication where ADHD has already been diagnosed elsewhere (and there is an existing report): £799.

  • Please note that I will need to have reviewed the prior assessment first and be in agreement with the diagnosis.
  • Where this is not the case, I will advise a full assessment be repeated, at a fee of £1,499.

Mandatory annual review if shared care with your GP: £249.

Mandatory 6 monthly review if your GP does not wish to share care: £249 per review.
