Adult ADHD comprehensive assessment: £1,499.

  • This takes approximately 2-3 hours of face to face clinical assessment, includes a general psychiatry assessment, screening for comorbid (co-occurring) conditions (e.g. OCD, Tic Disorders, Autism, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, problems with substances such as alcohol, cannabis etc), taking a collateral history from someone who ideally knew you as a child.  The fee also includes the substantial time required in reading pre-assessment information and a lengthy, comprehensive detailed report which meets the gold standard requirements of the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN), known as the AQAS standards.
  • As it is the rule that there are commonly additional other co-occurring (comorbid) mental disorders for people with ADHD, a skilled detailed comprehensive assessment is vital and enables me to consider how potential ADHD treatment might affect those disorders, as well as where appropriate to provide advice on treating those disorders also.  This is particularly the case for anxiety disorders, which many people with ADHD suffer from, and is an area that I very experienced and skilled in treating.
  • I do ask that where there are comorbid conditions that you are aware of, that you do your best in advance to have these treated and stabilised, as an important part of the ADHD diagnostic criteria is that the symptoms should not be better explained by the presence of another psychiatric disorder.  I do understand however that you may have already sought treatment which may only have been partly successful due potentially to ADHD, and am happy to discuss this in advance.
    • It’s common for many people with ADHD to have some ongoing substance misuse issues and ADHD can make it more difficult to treat those and indeed increases the chances of having them.  Examples include:
      • I request that alcohol be slowly and safely reduced to NHS recommended levels of 14 units weekly (please seek advice from your GP/local service if unsure how to do this, as rapid reduction can make a person very unwell and trigger a medical emergency if alcohol dependent). I request that the person achieve the above for one month prior to the assessment.
      • For cannabis, this is often used to aid sleep and to cope in the daytime; I advise that daytime use be gradually reduced and the night dose reduced to the smallest needed level, and to be at the lowest dose for one month before the assessment.
  • Where I diagnose ADHD, I give helpful advice to understand the condition and immediate psychosocial (non medication) actions you can take.  This doesn’t include commencement of medication, which when appropriate, is done at a separate medication appointment.
  • Where I feel your symptoms are due to another disorder, I will give a thorough explanation and outline potential treatment and will offer to treat this if appropriate and you would like this.

Initial medication appointment: £199.  Please note this fee will increase to £249 on for new appointments from 9th July 2025.

  • This includes an initial private prescription to commence ADHD treatment titration and a thorough discussion with you of the various medication options.  I tailor your initial medication based on your preferences and needs.
  • It’s also important to remember that you can later choose to trial a different medication and I can guide you on this if needed.

Followup medication appointment: £199.  Please note this fee will increase to £249 on for new appointments from 9th July 2025.

  • Monthly followups are required during initial titration; I aim to help you achieve your stable dose as safely and quickly as possible.
  • Approximately 3-6 appointments may be needed (I estimate an average of 5 months is common), but this can vary (and is difficult to predict), depending on response, potential side effects and co-morbid (other) conditions.
  • Once your medication is optimised and stable for at least 4 weeks, I can invite your GP to share care with me and I would complete a shared cared protocol to accompany my usual outpatient letter.  There is no additional charge for this.
    • Please note that shared care is at your GP’s discretion and they are able to refuse for any reason.  Most of my ADHD patients are under shared care, but some are not, where their GP practices do not wish to do shared care.  I do recommend you enquire if your GP practice would consider sharing care with a private specialist such as myself or not, in advance.
    • If shared care is accepted, you would pay the NHS prescription charge of £9.90 (if applicable) to the pharmacist for future prescriptions.  You would need to see your GP practice 6 monthly for a checkup to check your blood pressure, heart rate and that you remain well, and to see me for an annual review, as part of the agreement.
  • If your GP did not wish to share care, then I would be happy to continue to provide monthly private prescriptions at the fee below, and would need to see you for mandatory 6 monthly reviews.
  • I can also privately prescribe other psychiatric medicine if needed, such as for the comorbid disorders common in ADHD and discuss these in detail with you based on your preferences and past experiences with medication.  These are sent electronically to you for your convenience and in general are relatively inexpensive.  I can request your GP to continue these on repeat prescriptions and there is usually no difficulty with this.

Private prescription (outside of an appointment) to include postage via Special Delivery,  tracked next day delivery by 1pm: £47.

  • I use Special Delivery as these are controlled drugs.
  • Please ideally give 1 week’s notice before the current prescription runs out.
  • In an emergency I do my best to get this to you sooner – this is affected though by post office opening hours.

To take over care and titrate medication where ADHD has already been diagnosed elsewhere (and there is an existing report): £799.

  • Please note that I will need to have reviewed the prior assessment first and be in agreement with the diagnosis.
  • Where this is not the case, I will advise a full assessment be repeated, at a fee of £1,499.

Mandatory annual review if shared care with your GP: £199.  Please note this fee will increase to £249 on for new appointments from 9th July 2025.

Mandatory 6 monthly review if your GP does not wish to share care: £199.  Please note this fee will increase to £249 on for new appointments from 9th July 2025.
